This film was directed by Gurinder Chadha, the British director of the
popular 2002 film, "Bend it Like Beckham." The film takes Jane
Ausen's "Pride and Prejudice" and turns it into a musical
comedy set in India and played in the melodramatic Indian manner that
has come to be known as "Bollywood." Its multinational cast
includes Indian film star Aishwarya Rai in her first appearance in an
English-language film. The BBC said the film is marked by "wit and
mischief" and constitutes "a romantic comedy that amply
delivers on its eastern promise." It was nominated for two British
Independent Film awards in 2004.
Rated PG-13.
