To Skate or Not To Skate

A fun evening of short films by local filmmakers.  Following the films and discussion, viewers are invited to meet the filmmakers and see a skateboard competition at a special reception at the Train Station.  This event is cosponsored by the Shepherdstown Skate Society.  Films include:

"SKIDS" (2005; 15 min.) by Anne Walter of Shepherdstown.  This film takes a progressive look at building a skateboard park in Shepherdstown.

"No No Skateboarding" (2005; 15 min.) by Lisa Jaeggi of Silver Spring, MD.  A documentary that raises the awareness of skateboarding and the need for skateboard parks, this film is based on the filmmaker's own experiences.  The film includes interviews with skateboarders, government officials, and downtown merchants.  Ms. Jaeggi is a graduate of Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring and is attending Guilford College in North Carolina.  Her film was the subject of a recent Metro Section article in the Washington Post.

"Poof" (2004; 7 min.) by Kevin Walla of Keedysville, MD.  This is a short, black and white film that explores the nature of existence, along the lines of "Waiting for Godot".

"First Note" (2003; 15 min.) by John Meyers of Frederick, MD.  A story drawn from some of the director's life experiences:  living in Vermont, working on small dairy farms, and watching a musical instrument change a young person's life.  Read more about this film at www.FirstNoteTheFilm.com.
