A washed-up prize fighter (Marlon Brando) attempts to regain his dignity and the respect
of the woman he loves (Eva Marie Saint) by exposing racketeering in the longshoremen's
union. This film was Kazan's answer to his critics for naming names to a Congressional
committee.
The film received eight Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director, Best
Actor and Best Supporting Actress.
