During the latter part of World War I, a British private (Alan Bates) with no knowledge
of ordnance is chosen to defuse a bomb planted by the Germans in a French town.
Chased by some Germans he finds himself holed up at the local insane asylum, where the
inmates are convinced that he is the "King of Hearts." Will he be able to deactivate the
bomb in time and save his newfound friends?
