In this story of backstage life, an ingenue (Anne Baxter) insinuates herself into the
company of an established but aging stage actress (Betty Davis) and her circle of friends.
The film received six Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director and Best
Supporting Actor (George Sanders). Marilyn Monroe appears luminously and briefly as
Sanders' protégé.
