A Jewish family in Germany emigrate shortly before the Second World War. They move to
Kenya to start running a farm, but not all members of the family adapt equally
well to their new life. Shortly after their departure, things begin to
change in Germany very quickly, and a turning back seems impossible. (This film won the
Oscar in 2002 for best foreign language film.)
The film is based on an autobiographical novel written by Stephanie
Zwieg (ISBN 0299199606).
